#outofthebox – Workshop Series on Trauma at SFU Vienna

The Intersection of Trauma, Culture, and Mental Health: A Workshop on Inclusive Practices

  • Speaker: Jason Izadi, BA
  • Time: 25 March, 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM CET
  • Venue: online via MS Teams, free of charge

Workshop Description

This workshop will explore how trauma affects mental health in immigrant and refugee populations. Participants will learn about the challenges these groups face, such as pre-migration violence, forced displacement, and post-migration stressors like discrimination and cultural adjustment.

The session will focus on culturally sensitive strategies for understanding and addressing trauma in diverse communities. Using research examples and practical approaches, participants will gain insights into trauma-informed care practices that promote inclusion and equity. The workshop will also discuss ways to support recovery and build resilience through community-focused interventions.

The session will end with an interactive Q&A discussion, giving participants the opportunity to reflect on how these ideas can be applied in clinical practice or research. This workshop aims to inspire new approaches to supporting diverse populations and advancing mental health care for marginalized groups.
