Sunday, 10.11.24, 11:00 a.m. to Sunday 19.01.25, 11:00 a.m.

The film series “FILMIC DREAMS / SPACES—CINEMA AND PSYCHOANALYSIS: REALIZATION, DENIAL, FAITH” is part of the Cultural Theory seminar and a collaboration between Kant Kino and the Sigmund Freud Private University (Prof. Dr. Reinhold Görling).
There will be an opportunity for discussion after the screenings.

Cinema invites us to share a mental space with the film, a space of daydreams in which images, scenes and stories emerge, thoughts that express and transform feelings. In the joint discussions following the film, the aim is not to categorize what has been seen, but to understand the connections that make a film out of the images, scenes and stories.

The event is open to all and no pre-registration is required.

Dates:

  • Zone of Interest.
    Sunday I 10.11.24 I 11:00
    Director: Jonathan Glazer (2023) OmU
The house in which the married couple Rudolf and Hedwig Höß and their five children live looks like a small paradise for people who have become wealthy. The fact that the carefully tended garden borders the wall of the Auschwitz extermination camp seems to go unnoticed. Only the film’s soundtrack gives us an idea of what happened there, for which Höß is responsible as commandant.

  • Anatomie eines Falles / Anatomie d’une chute.
    Sunday I 24.11.24 I 11:00
Directed by Justine Triet (2023) OmU
Sandra, a successful novelist, her less successful husband Samuel, their almost blind son Daniel and a dog live in a chalet near Grenoble. When Samuel dies in a window fall, Sandra is charged with murder. There are no witnesses and no reliable evidence. Daniel knows that his testimony will have a decisive influence on the verdict.

  • The Beast.
    Sunday I 15.12.24 I 11:00
    Director: Bertrand Bonello (2023) OmU
In 2044, in a world controlled by the logic of artificial intelligence, feelings – love, fear, trauma – no longer have a place. You can have your DNA cleansed of them: In time travel, memories are visited and erased. But this doesn’t always work; for some people, the memories are too strong. For Gabrielle, they condense into an eerie present. But perhaps the real horror isn’t fear at all.

  • Joker: Folie à deux.
    Sunday I 19.01.25 I 11:00
    Director: Todd Phillips (2024) OmU
In this sequel to the 2019 film, Joker awaits his trial in a psychiatric ward. Unintentionally, his actions have made him the medial hero of a Gotham City uprising in an intertwining of imagination and need for action. But psychiatry has its own space of madness. With Lady Gaga at the side of Joaquin Phoenix, it becomes a musical in which the roles are also swapped.
