Studying psychology opens up a wide range of professional opportunities. Working as a psychologist is possible in many professional fields, depending on the specialisation. In order to facilitate orientation, a selection of professional fields will be presented at this event. Psychologists from each SFU branch will present their fields of work and provide an insight into their everyday work. There will be first-hand information as well as space for exchange and questions. Language of presentation will be English.

There are ten dates in total, each Tuesday from 6 pm – 7.30 pm online via Zoom. The overall course can be credited as an „additional course“ (1 ECTS). The events of the lecture series can also be attended individually without obtaining a certificate. The 2nd online lecture takes place on 16th April 2024 at 6 pm and is hosted by our SFU branch in Ljubljana. SFU students can register via Academy 5 for the event:

About the Lecture

Sport is one of the most beautiful, but at the same time very challenging areas, for all people that are involved in it – athletes, coaches, parents, also spectators. Sport of course has many positive effects on physical and mental health, but simply doing sport does not always bring that. Same as other areas, sport has also changed in the last years and decades, which significantly affects experience of athletes and their psychological characteristics. High performance professional orientation, importance of being ‘’the best’’, different role of finances in sport as in the past, search for ideals, attitude towards win and failure are just few of those areas. Having this in mind we will try to understand what is the role of a sport psychologist.

Usually when we think of sport psychology work and solutions we think of elite athletes and their pre-performance routines, but that is only one part of it. Sport psychology in practice is directed towards solving all different problems that an athlete or coach faces.  In the lecture, we will focus on these various issues that exist in the different areas of sports (youth and elite; individual and team; professional and recreation etc.) and that need and can be addressed though work of sport psychologist. Through examples we will try to raise awareness of sport psychologist work orientation and goals and discuss the solutions that psychologist can implement in practice.
