Giselher Guttmann was born on October 2, 1934, in Vienna. He began to study Psychology and Zoology at the University of Vienna in 1955, and was hired as a research assistant at the Department of Psychology in 1959. After his graduation in 1963, he took a position as an assistant professor in Erlangen before he returned to Vienna in 1965. There, he established a neuropsychological laboratory. He qualified as a professor in 1968, was appointed to the Chair of "Experimental and Applied Psychology" and, in 1973, to the Chair of "General Psychology". As the last Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy he had to reorganize the faculty and to found three succeeding faculties. In 1983, he became a corresponding and, in 1992, a full member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, Division of Mathematics and the Natural Sciences. He was founding rector of the University of Human Sciences in the Principality of Liechtenstein and is now continuing his scientific work at the Sigmund Freud Private University.
